Wink Off to the Caribbean! Advice Needed

Hi All,

Just after Christmas I'm going island hopping around the caribbean and I need some recommendations as to tackle. I'm going to be on a cruise and jumping off on islands everyday for about two weeks of the hol and I just want to find myself a beach and get some spinning and beach casting in. So basically can anyone recommend me a rod and reel you can easily travel with, be it telescopic, come with a case, basically something multi purpose i could get in a large suitcase, but can take the power of some of the fish I could hook into over there. Any advice, hints and tips as to lures, rigs, baits, places to fish on specific islands. .. obvious do's and don'ts... anything really would be really useful too as i'm going absolutely blind.

I really can't wait but would love to have a bit of Caribbean beach and pier fishing no how before I go.

Chris.

Hi Chris,

I've been a few times myself and believe me if you are on a cruise the last thing that you will think about is fishing.

However if you are adamant about taking a rod with you, have a look at the Shimano Travel Rods. I am sure that you will find one to your liking, they all come in a tubular case that will fit in a suitcase and all of them have an excellent finish. Most important, they have been built to last. I have one of their boat rods and can highly recommend it, I'm sure that the spinning rod will be just as good.

The reel that I use is an Abu 6000 Mag but if you have a look around I'm sure that you will find a small FS reel to do the job.

I trust that this may be of some help.

Regards

Drew
