First trip

Just thought I'd tell you all how my first trip to Wales went.

I left the farm early wednesday morning, had really planned to go tuesday night but that was not to happen. First thing was to get some bait. tackle and, hopefully, advice.

First shop on my route happened to be Barry Anglingcentre where I got both and more, really helpful staff, not just out to sell but really trying to help a fellow out.

As I was travelling with my dog Daisy, I needed to fish somewhere reasonably safe, got directions for Ogmore Lawns and hit the venue just before high tide.
First session gave a lone dogfish, loads of strikes and really nice weather. Had a break, cooked some dinner andgot set up for some night fishing. Again I caught dogfish and missed more strikes.

After a few hours of sleep I decided to change venue and wet to the next shop on my internet printout, namely ProAngling in Pontypridd. Again I was on the recieving end of some quality service and got set up for a session at Seacliff, Newport.

Caught a few small whiting, had strikes on every cast but couldn't connect with fish. A couple of lads fishing next to me cought a nice conger, but otherwise it seemed to be whitings for all. Tide went to ebb and I packed up.

I tried small hooks, circle hooks and large hooks. Big baits, small baits, ragworms, sandeel, squid, bluey and mackerel. Strikes on all but just couldn't connect, what do I do wrong? Do I need to strike as the rod tip taps or wait or what?

Grateful for advice.

Moto

ps. Will get going again next wednesday.

Re: First trip

points for effort

if there are alot of whiting about they can be a sod to hook up too
as seem to have knack of stripping bait and leaving hook
