| Re: need help *** casting problems*** help!! i dont quite understand what is happening? your reel handle weighing more than your line has nothing to do with it though my guess is your casting but the bail arm is flipping back over and stopping the cast? __________________ fishing for fish is not as simple as you may think! |

| Re: need help *** casting problems*** help!! Not during the cast... when the bail open is open turn the handle very gently until you feel resistance, this is where the bailarm will automatically be flicked over during normal use. Depending on quality of reel it will either be an internal mechanism or just a bit of metal on the outside of the reel that the bailarm hits. I always have the bailarm just past this point when I cast, so it has to make a full turn before it closes by accident. I think from memory that the finger I hold the line on the lip of the spool with is also on the same side as the open bailarm, providing extra security. On the older cheaper reels if the bailarm was flicked over by contacting on a bit of metal, it could stick open if it was just before the impact point as you couldn't build up enough momentum in the short space before impact to have it close. Could cause problems when trying to mend the line on a fast flowing river or in strong winds. Full agreement with Pingu though - slow everything down & don't try to chuck it too far .
