Re: Alderney , Channel Islands

yup i havent been but know many of the local mullet boys go over there every winter looking for the doubles.

have you seen how they fish it for mullet though? i fish lighter here for bass!!!
they fish 2oz weight 15-10lb amnesia as hooklength then use a whole king rag for bait and fish from the beach at night!!!

i would love to go but you wouldnt catch me in a plane! can we not catch a ferry? ;)

Re: Alderney , Channel Islands

you can get the ferry form poole ,weymouth and portsmouth ,foot passenger is between £10-£50 depending on season ,thats to guern or jsy then over to alderney on seperate local boat... but i would take the car over on the condor form poole or weymouth 2-3 hours, £120 -200 (35 knotts) weather permitting ,if you go from portsmouth it takes all night (oil tanker ferry )pain in the ass that one .....or fly direct to alderney...the only reason i would take the car is to go visiting freinds .

Re: Alderney , Channel Islands

im glad theres interest in this! and im glad there is an alternative way to get there other than a plane - dont really wanna take the rods on a plane coz what was a two-piece will probably end up in four and cost me hundreds in excess luggage weight!

i have the brochure here with me now - i will not mention the name of the place so as not to endorse on the forum but PM me if you wanna know.

basically they can arrange special accomodation and flights packages - flying from southampton but also can be done from bristol, bournemouth, east midlands and manchester.
low season is 1st october - 31st may and the prices for this package deal flying from southampton comes in at £258 for 5 nights. that gives an en-suite room, breakfast at whatever time is good for you...
im sure its gonna be cheaper taking a van full of the tackle on a ferry and the rest of us as foot passengers....

Re: Alderney , Channel Islands

juan,i know a girl who works for condor ferries so will have a chat with her and see how cheap she can go for us ,i would prefer the ferry to flying cos i know what there like at jersey air port (from experiance) +we can plug off the back of the ferry

Re: Alderney , Channel Islands

anyway,on a more seriuos note i think a trip to alderney is a must and september is probably the best month to fish it,bass, brill, turbot, conger ,pollack so that gives us plenty time to plan and pay for it... for next year!!! i know i said i would rather take the ferry but the best option is to fly ,,im sure they fly from exeter as well JP ........ whos up for it then.....only seriuos applicants to reply please
