I've voted for lug, although it would be lug AND squid, but as i can only vote for one it would have to be lug.

I've voted for white ragworm, i've lost count how many matches i've won using me whites, theres a place in Scotland where I dig them where the snakes go up to sixteen inches long, honest , they are fantastic, and keep for ages, i've kept whites in me fridges for up to a year, the secret is not to overcrowd them and keep them in coaldust, the coaldust from our beaches filters the water in the trays! one change of water every two months, and the result - always whites in my fridges!
My favourite cod bait from the beach is big yellowtail lug tipped with half a snake white , the term commonly used up here is BLACK AND WHITE OUTA SIGHT!!
From the rocks, crab, lug, rag, mussel, squid, wrapped around with salmon roe (frozen), normally known as a COCKTAIL, you have to reduce your lead as these baits can weigh up to two ounces! good job we're just lobbing into holes and gullies.

the problem i found was that you had to tie them on with the elastic type stuff which was really hard in the pitch black and rain and wind when your hands are freezing and also they make your hands stink even more than some other baits
