Tired of catching doggies

Recently I returned from Rockport near Boston on the east cost of the US. While there I spoke to a couple of local fishermen, they had an interesting way of targeting certain fish types using additives that other fish wouldnt take. One of them being a pest known as a catshark, or bait robbing ******* as I was told anyway. They had an additive that they used which the catshark wouldnt touch, so they could fish with 99.9% without catching the catshark.

I realised after seeing one that the catshark is a relative of the dogfish (hmmm...

Last month i blanked for 5 trips.Then had a few doggies so was delighted to see them.Better than a blank.All the best marty.

Doggies down this part of the world seem to of decreased this yr ,Not heard of that many reports of them , Normall i would expect to catch a min of 50 per yr of them

interesting ideas though,in the freshwater scene we use additives for our baits all the time,i wonder if some will have a use in the sea

I reckon we pulled out only slightly less than that between three of us in a couple of hours last week. Any bait, any distance, you just couldn't get away from the damned things. I reckon in the three hours I had about 15-18 on my own. When they're on the feed, they're on the feed.

Did make me think though. Has anybody fished for them on light gear??? I reckon you might just coax a fight out of a doggie if you managed to get one on say a 30gr spinning rod.... Hmmm, gonna give that a go I reckon.
