| gill netting info from DSFC Following on from the find of the gill net in january The club had a meeting last week with representatives from the Devon Sea fishisheries committee, unfortunately i could not attend but here is a summary of what was the outcome of the meeting and i must give massive thanks to Si who put in alot of time into this matter and just posting his email on as i cant add much more Following the meeting about fixed gill-nets in our area, I have now heard back from the Devon Sea Fisheries Committee who confirm the following statement: ''Any fixed gill-net, set within one nautical mile of the shore in an area from Salcombe Mouth (East of Sidmouth) to Torquay Harbour (please see attached map for exact markings) MUST have a Devon Sea Fisheries Committee tag AND the headline must be at least 3 metres below the surface of the water at ALL states of the tide. Moreover, only one tagged net is permitted per registered fishing vessel.'' For your further information, no fixed net may be used inland of a line Orcombe Point to Warren Point (Exmouth end of the Warren). If you suspect illegal netting then DSFC wants to hear from you immediately. Please call them on (01803) 854648 or email at devonseafish@btconnect.com (Incidentally, sadly, Salcombe Mouth Eastwards to Branscombe Mouth is not covered by the one mile fixed net regulations and is a free for all area. East of Branscombe mouth the rules apply again up to Humble Point. That said, all nets must comply to mesh size regulations of course so once again, if you suspect anything, report it!). the areas below are marked out ![]() and lastly there have only been 2 aplications for legal nets this year __________________ www.exmouthsaa.co.uk 24 beers in a case and 24 hours in a day, coincidence or just damn good planning Officially a bad influence since 2005 ;-) |
