wrasse

has anybody here caught a nice sized wrasse? because the wrasse, although people dont really like them, is the only species really that people have a good chance of beating the british record at! im just wondering. my best is a 5 and a half pounder which i caught when i woz 12!

Re: wrasse

I caught a six pounder near Dartmouth Castle many years ago. If I remember correctly, it was only two oz short of the record set a while before in the late 70's early 80s.

Re: wrasse

I do know of a spot that ive not fished in a while in Torquay that, as far as I know, still produces fish around the 3lb mark.

Re: wrasse

i know a spot like that, its a series of deep gullies, that produce that sort of weght even at low tide, because the wter is so deep. i use whole live crab and it never fails! its good also because pollack and bass are caught in the gullies too

Island991 will become famous soon enough
Re: wrasse

I know this is an old thread but here in guernsey is a very likely place to break the record. A huge wrasse of over 10lb was caught recently which would have smashed the local and british records. Unfortunately the 9yo and his family were from south africa and new to island and had no idea of the fish/significance!! and it was eaten before and record ID could be taken!! They could confirm that on kitchen scales it tipped well over 10lbs though!! unbelievable.
