| Time for a clearout . . . Decided this weekend that rather than try to winkle out a few pout or pin whiting over the next few weeks that i'd invest a bit of time sorting out the accummulated purchases of a self confessed tackle tart. First off was the floaty suit; decision was to chuck it out or give it a wash? So with a bit of time to kill i filled up a big storage bin with hot water and washing powder chucked the stinking thing in and left it to soak. Outcome a surprisingly clean and usable floaty - no more smelling like an old trout! Second was the newer fishing suit that also stunk to high heaven, convinced the missus to allow it into the washing machine, she worked her magic (by this i mean she didn't shrink it, a first in our house) and there was a suit as good as new. Now firmly on a roll, i decided to venture into the fishing cupboard in the garage, pulled out the old mustad rover sack, and found about 20 quids worth of gear that i'd forgotten about, brand new hooks, weights, rigs etc. Went to go into the main compartment and could hear something moving around opened it up to find Mr and Mrs mouse had made it into a home - freeloading, immigrant work shy so and so's - so spent the afternoon mouse baiting which my cat thorughly enjoyed Then decided to be brutal and to chuck all the old rigs i'd been hoarding, a couple of the reels that had that nasty word "Okuma" on, a couple of rods that have various eyes missing, broken reel seat, all spookily with the name "Leeda" on - that'll teach me for trying to save a few quid - and ended up with a bin full of old line, rusty bits and bobs - i reckon about two hundred quids worth all told. The upshot of it is that i now have a single box full of gear that doesn't stink, all my weights sorted, rigs all sorted, less rods, less reels and what looks like a much consolidated set of gear. Spooky thing is that i've not been enjoying fishing quite as much as normal in the last couple of weeks, yet now with all the gear sorted and ready to go I'm looking forward to getting out for my next session. Whether it be Pouting, Rockling or Whiting . . . Apologies for the length of the post but it's a slow day at work today! __________________ It has always been my private conviction that any man who pits his intelligence against a fish and loses has it coming. ~John Steinbeck |

| Re: Time for a clearout . . . Know what you mean about the rigs mate.. I've got a plastic box full of old rigs with rusted hooks and green swivels. Really must get round to taking the beads and bait clips and slinging the rest. Some day I just might. Maybe. ![]() __________________ Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land.
