200lb shore caught Skate

Anyone else seen the articles in the last two editions of Sea Angler magazine about giant Skate being caught from the Shore from Tarbert peir on the isle of Harris. A new record 200lb + along with a few others around the 180lb mark on stepped up beach gear.... I wonder how my usual 3 hook flattie rigs would cope?

Re: 200lb shore caught Skate

I have seen the pictures, and in my humble opinion, they look like they are from outer space!!

But, a fantastic species, long may they roam the deep.

Re: 200lb shore caught Skate

I can imagine it now.

Having been winding for the best part of an hour, Dave's arms feel like they're going to fall off. The sweat pours from his brow as once again hard earned line slips from the reel as the rod absorbs yet another crash dive. Slowly however, inch by painful inch is retrieved until at last the beast is close to the shore. Taking pity on the feathered one, Baggie jumps down to the shoreline to retrieve his mighty prize. And then it happens. The horror of the moment is realised as the cry comes back up from the water.

"Piggin hell mate. I think wim gonna need a bigger net than this. Yow eh gorra rope av ya?"
