Re: idea on price

I may be wrong but i had a 498 which was the left hander of the two.
Great reel in its day,i remember suddenly being able to cast over 100 yards when i teamed it up with and early cono flex
If its in mint condition with box and papers then it may be worth something but i d hold onto it if i were you.

Re: idea on price

In all honesty its worth nothing. Its only an old Mitchell. Great if it could cast 100 yds 30 years ago. I want to spend my money on something that can cast 300m now.
Not being funny or anything but just because a reel or a rod is old, it doesn't make it worth anything. I have a shed full of old tackle and if anyone offered me 20 quid for the lot I would be happy

Bit harsh that mate.
The 498/9 was a classic reel that in good condition will fetch decent money now.
You d be surprised,it depends wether your old tackle is any good.
An early Zzippy is still going to be worth something.

Re: idea on price

Old tackle is only worth a few bob to a collector and then has to have HARDY written on it and original condition + box!

Re: idea on price

Perhaps "Nothing" was a bit harsh! but I can't see anyone wanting to pay a fortune either. Come to think of it I can't see why anyone would want to collect Mitchell reels!
