Re: Barracuda? Went out trolling from a boat in Cuba last october & we were taking them on trolled dead Mullet baits which were about 8"long. Also on Red & White Rapala magnums. I also did a bit of inshore fishing over the local reef & kept getting Barracuda biting small fish that I'd caught in half as i reeled them in ![]() However when I tried spinning a dead bait or Rapala over the reef, I had nothing. Not even a follow.

I'd strongly advise a strong steel trace LOL I also fitted some heavy duty saltwater Owner hooks to my Rapala's.

Re: Barracuda? Hi Alan. I live on the Costa Blanca. Last year I caught Cuda on the boat and from the shore. Almost all the ones on the boat took tiny sabaki type lures designed for sardines. From the shore they were all caught on 9 or 11cm plugs. I don't know why but for some reason they only ever wanted small lures. ![]() This was an average sized shore caught Barracuda that a friend of mine recently caught of the rocks at Torrevieja.

Re: Barracuda? There is a marina nature reserve not far from where I live. Diver friends of mine say that they have seen hundreds of Barracuda, some well over a metre long.

Re: Barracuda? Here is one I caught on a fly - a bundle of feathers the size of a shuttlecock, fished on a #12 outfit ![]() As Greenheart says, a wire trace is essential, and one fly is usually pretty cut-up after taking two or three 'cuda on it. What I have found important, whether using fly, plug or spinner is to retrieve AS FAST AS YOU CAN. It is impossible to work a lure TOO fast for 'cuda. I'm sure the reason is that they inhabit very clear water, and if the lure is worked too slowly they get a good look at it and then shy away. __________________ Nothing matters very much, few things matter at all - Plato ...only things like fresh bait and cold beer - Vagabond

Re: Barracuda? Here is the sort of fly I use for 'cuda - this has just been recovered from a fish's jaw. White, silver, blue and green are the best colours. I have found red and orange are not good colours for tropical saltwater preds. ![]() __________________ Nothing matters very much, few things matter at all - Plato ...only things like fresh bait and cold beer - Vagabond

If this Global warming thing continues, we may even be catching em on Chesil soon. We are already seeing strange & exotic species like Cuckoo's, Pingu's & Gullyworms on the south coast.... ![]()
