| Re: fixed spool beach rods???????? Certainly a good way to start without having to master "special" casting techniques. In general, the longer the rod, the longer you could cast, I know of one or 2 who have given up on Multi's & smaller stiff rods as they could not load them and switched to 16-18 foot rods and can get some good distance (100 yrds +) with a simple overhead thump - but you will never reach the distances a Multi could reach ..... ... what I am saying is, a FS & long rod will be fine ! As ever, most fish are caught in the sub 100 yds area .... Around £100 - Greys GRX is worth a look but a shorter rod, the new RT 15' might be worth a look .... | Re: fixed spool beach rods???????? seen alot of good reports for the longer rods for fixed spool, think they are the best bet if went FS again had a diawa sandstorm that baggie now has and still swear can cast it further than the multi rods gor now __________________ www.exmouthsaa.co.uk 24 beers in a case and 24 hours in a day simples You won't know unless you go :D...and if you do go!! please let us know :D as thats how the forum thrives |

| Re: fixed spool beach rods???????? the Greys GRX 13ft is a very good rod for the price. I had one before i changed to the multi, it can cast a good distance and is not bad in a strong tide, if i went back to fixed spool i would pick this rod. |

| Re: fixed spool beach rods???????? I have a Blue Metal K2 which i think is about 16' long, i tend not to use it much nowadays as whilst initially it did give extra distance and had pretty good bite detection, it was really heavy to use and tended to lack the grunt for anything other than the cleanest ground. I guess my point is that whilst you may get extra distance you might lose in other areas. I reckon you might be better off spending your money on a good spool first and rod second. __________________ It has always been my private conviction that any man who pits his intelligence against a fish and loses has it coming. ~John Steinbeck |
