| Eeek. Scratched rods! Whilst happily fishing away last night, I glanced at one of rods only to find that my crappy cheapo rod rest has scratched the blank. It would appear that the plastic head has put a few scratches both down the length of the rod when I've been baiting up and around the circumference when the rod has been turned in the stand. Safe to say that I'll be looking for a new rod rest soon, but what's the best way to try and get rid of the scratches in the mean time? Dave suggested furniture polish which I'm going to try tonight, but has anybody got any better ideas? Anyone tried car polish such as turtle wax? __________________ Right then, checklist: Rods. | Re: Eeek. Scratched rods! the rods- hopefully its just a scratch into the varnish, wipe wi' a damp cloth let it dry then touch up the varnish, but possibly there is a layer of paint on the blank under the varnish that may need touching up first. i'm not a much of a tackle tart so my rods bare many scars. the butt sections are strong and so odd scratches shouldn't affect them other than cosmetically. the rest- line the cups with foam/ gaffer tape or if you've got a bit spare shrink wrap, to cover the metal for a smooth finish. gj. __________________ beer so many venues, so little time. |

As far as I'm concerned, rods are tools. You show me a workshop with all gleaming, new looking tools and I'll show you a very lazy or retentive workshop owner. Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I'll let you know how I get on.... __________________ Right then, checklist: Rods. Check. Reels. Check. Speckled Hen. Check. Bait…… BAIT! | Re: Eeek. Scratched rods! I use a high quality, high wax content furniture polish, doesn't matter which brand. Don't know if it does anything other than make the rods look nice and it might make them shine but it also seems to tidy any minor scratchs and helps mud drop off. Having said all that I'd be a lot more worried about grit getting into the joints than a scratch or too on the blank. A few battle scars here and there shows that you actully use them rather than just polish them . __________________ Just remember, not all the heroes died. www.helpforheroes.org.uk |
