Re: whiting rig

i use a 2 or 3 hook flapper as never seem to have to cast far for them
size 1/0 but sure others may have better

Re: whiting rig

What i use is the same really, a two hook flapper rig with size 1 to 1/0 hooks. You dont need to go any smaller than a size 1 because those little scavangers got a big mouth.
All the best hope i've helped a little.

Re: whiting rig

I hesitated to answer this one .... there's no such beast really.

Beach, I take it?

Long distance clipped etc; close in - 'flapper'.

Hook size depends on bait and possibility of other species.

Why limit yourself to whiting or pout on a 1/0 or 1 when you might be better off on 2s or 4s for soles AND still catch the whiting. Conversely, I might fish two size 1s above a 2/0 stuffed with lug for a codling and still hope to take whiting on it.

For a non-match trace I'd probably go with a two hooks, clipped down, B980 size 1s. One or two worms tipped with squid or mackerel.

For distance, a wishbone 1/0 behind an impact shield.

For numbers of fish or as a match-type trace ....

Re: whiting rig

i used too use a wishbone for them, as soon as i put the rig on dropped it down this little jetty had a whiting in less than 10 mins and whiting are uncommon down there. although i recon if the whiting are hungry they will eat anything in there sight.

Then you're probably using snoods which are too light and too long.
40 lbs snood down to 25lbs hook lengths for me and very rare to tangle.

They're not exactly 'match rigs', so I can't see the point in using 15lbs snoods which will tangle!

This is what I mean, but I'd step it up to the snoods suggested above and maybe shorten the 40lbs section to 2ft .....
