Unhappy Best Bait for IOW off shore wreck (5mile)

Im am a novice to fishing I have the shads the jellys and all the booms you need !

Im after abit advice


Im going IOW wrecK fishing about 5-10mile out

Should I buy Rag worm
Mackerel
Squidd
Crab

Also been told to dig for my rag at lepe beach ? any help there ?

I would tackle mackerel and squid and fish them on the slack water targeting conger if you anchor up on slack water.

Sounds like you are going to fish some very well fished wrecks at that distance so do not be scared of changing your shad colour and speed of return untill you get some hits.

Also if your new to wrecking tips -
  1. Count as you reel up your rig and when you get a hit you will know how high the fish are sitting off the wreck
  2. Use a rotten bottom for you lead
  3. Long booms are key
  4. Make sure you hook lenght is kink / damage free after each fish
  5. Vary you hook lenght if you are getting no joy
  6. The skipper is a wealth of information

Im sure some more help will be posted and maybe one of the lads have been wrecking this weekend

Ask the skipper if he's anchoring at slack water, if so take along some heavy mono 150/200lb for conger traces, 8/0 hooks and a box of squid or try blueys.
