| Re: 2007 abu 6500 c3 ''hi speed'' I got two for the south coast mate, awesome when oiled a bit, 525's or slosh's are stronger, although the abu's have got uprated gears, and a fast retrieve, happy with mine tho, they go on eiither bze's or ccc ld's equally well __________________ Remember what the dormouse said, ...... | Re: 2007 abu 6500 c3 ''hi speed'' ah right thanks for the reply mate... the reason i ask is i called the local takle shop today and asked him about them.. told him i already have the penns and he basically put me off them to a degree.. he said that they dont have the guts a penn has and made it clear he is not a penn fan... and said they are ok if im going to be fishing clean beaches... im tempted to buy a pair anyway and if i dont like them in 6 months time stick them on evil bay.. ![]() __________________ fishing for fish is not as simple as you may think! |

| Re: 2007 abu 6500 c3 ''hi speed'' Your description says '6500 C3 High Speed'; I've only ever seen the C3CT (Cage Tourney) version without the levelwind. Can't think why anyone would want a non-CT for a casting reel anyway (bar lure fishing). All the makers, not just ABU, love throwing 'new models' at us just to make us think of updating. We're a gullible lot ..... look what happened when they brought the 'Florida Sunshine' 6500 out .... everyone wanted to be seen with the 'orange one' on the beach! Just find something you're confident with and stick with it. Here on the shingly, sandy, clean Solent beaches, my ten year old original Sports Rockets have been superb. I wipe 'em over; have customised the tuning carefully, re-lube and clean the brake rims every dozen trips and get trouble-free motoring!! Also in my box are a couple of Penn 525GSs for when the smuts get tough! I can safely say the ABUs have run the gauntlet of time and the Penns are bomb-proof. From what pals say, the Daiwa SLOSHs are great too! People fiddle too much with reels. Get them set up right and stick with it. Have trouble? Then see a good reel technician in the local shop or seek out a good casting instructor who has probably seen it all! Careful and sensible tuning is the key to enjoyable casting and fishing. Well, got carried away a bit; but there you have it. IMHO, the High Speed 6500 seems to be an excellent reel. Treat it well. High Speed gears are not made for hauling 20 lbs of weed! Lift and wind as Rexy would say! For the Bristol Channel or rough ground consider something more robust. Sometimes a Land Rover is better than a Ferrari! ![]() |
