Need some advice please.....

Hi all

I'm after some sound advice please can anyone help....
I'm looking to buy a century tip tornardo sport fishing rod....Are these rods worth the money that you pay for them?....
Also is the Century tip tornado sport suitable for fishing rough ground....
I would like to hear any members thoughts on this rod if any members would be so kind?....

Many many thanks Jamie

Re: Need some advice please.....

hi jamie the reason i ask is because the 'sport' blanks are extremely powerful. to reap any kind of rewards from such a rod you need to be able to compress the blank - unfortunately an overhead thump will not achieve this.
of course you will be able to cast the rod but you will only be achieveing about 25% of its true potential.
in my opinion you will be better looking at century or indeed zziplex rods which are more suited to your casting style.
i more often than not fish with an overhead cast - i have a zziplex dreamcast 2 and a century tip tornado match - these are lovely rods for this casting style - soft in the tip with a slower taper and a huge reserve of power in the butt section meaning that if i progress to a pendulum cast they will have the guts to accomplish this.
i would not advise purchasing a century 'sport' even if you are considering learning a pendulum cast. these rods are very unforgiving - timing is everything with the pendulum and the fast taper of the sport does not give you much lee-way!

just my opinions buddy - the century rods are beautiful but wouldnt want to see someone blowing a load of money on something that doesnt suit their needs...
in answer to you're other question - yes this rod is suited to rough ground fishing. There are also some good rough ground rods produced by Conoflex and Greys in the same sort of price bracket.

best of luck

john

Re: Need some advice please.....

Interesting reply John, I use TT lite & TT match.

Both cast really well, I am not the worlds best caster by a long way and learning the pendulum to fully utilise the power of the Match particularly.

I use both rods with a 'Hi intertia OTG cast with quite a bit of success, especially the match.

I know both rods will perform so much better with a full blown pendulum which would add another aspect to fishing but distance is not always the answer to catching fish !

The other part of these rods is the bite detection - I find them excellent and sit really well in winds as well.

Re: Need some advice please.....

Hi Jamie,
In answer to your question i would personally choose a cheaper rod for learning to at least get the basics of a half pendulum or full pendulum before spending out the cash on a rod which will set you back enough as it is without it being redundant until you have mastered your technique, i myself dont own anything too expensive and i still like fixed spool for the simplicity of it. The dearest rod i own is a shakespear Team Extreme, it has excellent bite detection and the power in it is awesome, i can do a half pendulum to acheive 150yrds + obviously the downside is that a fixed spool can be rather finger slicing on a bigger cast but as a rod it is ideal to help you get used to what power is really like when placed in your hands, at aboutg 210-00 quid its a very good mid - high priced rod

Re: Need some advice please.....

Hello Jamie, think most people seem to be missing the point and getting carried away with pendulem casting.
You said you wanted a rod for rough ground, well i would spend the money and get the best you can afford.
For rough ground you need a rod with some poke and not to much give in the tip,i would have thought your also not looking at belting a bait miles more just lobbing out into kelpy holes.
If you get something like a zziplex 50/50 you will pay a lot of money but you will have a brilliant rod for life,,,casting miles can come later.

Re: Need some advice please.....

Hi all

Thanks for all the replies,At the moment I've got a Greys Nitra 13ft 6" with reducer and I like it very much, but I do want a second rod so when I get more experienced I can use 2 rods....
I'm not that bad at casting I can hit around the 130+ mark so I'm happy with that distance at the minute,I think once I get used to my new Mag 525 and Abu Rocket I will gain a lot more distance....
Whatever I choose it must suit rough ground and I'm open to suggesstions on what type of rods that would suit me....
This rod must be well made as I want it to last along time,....
Come on guys give me some ideas,I will have around the £300 mark to spend....

Many many thanks Jamie....
