cheers richard i will give it my best shot it might work better if i could cast it in to the sea the coast is quite a long way from warwickshire i must be the furthest member from the coast 8)

Carlton mate try a bit of old inner tube from a bike on your thumb, this gives better grip and stops you burning your thumb.
The reason for the birds nest you are getting is cos the lead stops dead over grass try it in water and it slows down more gradual.
Tighten the little knob on the side pretty much right up and then loosen it as you get more confident.
If it has a big star shaped drag also tighten this right up for the cast and only loosen this one of if you get a huge fish or when you pack it away.

By the way My name is Paul and this is my first post here on this cool site might i add.
I live in Hants and fish around the solent area coarse and saltwater from the shore, i don't do boats to much vomit involved there for my liking.
