Bristol Channel Anyone fancy fishing the Bristol Channel, when the Cod and Whiting start arriving? Thornbacks to be caught some into double figures. There are some good marks this side of the Channel and over the water on the Welsh side. Abertaw for Smooooooooth Hound still not too late to catch one (i think), Nash point, Ogmore deeps for Cod. Big Conger from the shore on rough ground marks. Most are easy to get to. Just a thought. Cheers All

Chaps, I moved to Chepstow last December and during the winter usually fish out of Weston - few double figure thornys. This year Im also going to try Portishead as this was meant to have been good last year. However I was going to post today and ask if anyone has fished Redcliffe - Bristol side of the channel and opposite Chepstow ( well ish ) ? I wood be up for fishing this or another mark on the welsh side if anyone has any ideas - maybe one evening - any idea what fish could be around ? __________________ So near yet so far - Wembley 2008 - Zideered Right Up !

Re: Bristol Channel Juan, Where is Ogmore point then in relation to the old brodge /chepstow - is it sand or rough ground fishing ? You say late bass - does that mean they are finding bass there at the moment ? Wouldnt mind a go if they are ! __________________ So near yet so far - Wembley 2008 - Zideered Right Up !

Re: Bristol Channel ogmore is quite a bit further west tommy. yes the biggest bass i have heard of this season is 8lb but it nearly always coughs up some biggies when the cod anglers start fishing there with whole squid baits!!! it offers brilliant fishing 2hrs either side of high water and apart from some mussel beds and ledges very close in you will be casting into fairly clear ground in very deep water. It is a good ray mark and is notorious for specimen cod in the winter months. best to avoid the rocks in a southwesterly blow because you will probably get swept off by an unpredictable swell. At the moment I believe they are still getting dogfish, bass, rays, conger and a lot of bits and pieces.

Re: Bristol Channel Ogmore is down towards Bridgend. I'm in, time permitting, as I want to get to know the marks around my area and more fun with others. Between Newport and Chepstow the main fishing this summer has been Dover Sole, Ray and strap conger so I've been told although I've had quite a few rare invisible fish. I think last winter didn't produce much cod in the area, don't know about further west though.
