Exclamation Oiled up east devon beaches

well after hearing some reports thought would check out myself
as said in napoli post this poxy great ship was tried to be moved last week and in so doing spewed oil

sorry bad pic from sidmouth

its not good news people!!!

I headed east and drove to Seaton to be greeted by this sign

and the horrid smell of oil in the air
although sea seems clear initially

when you look down there are dollops of this horrid black thick oil everywhere!!!!!!!!!!!!

it sticks to your feet and everything!!

feeling really bad decided to head back and check out branscombe itself, drove down to the carpark (took usual pound plus extra one incase summer price ) too find its now £3 for a beach thats unuseable !! so sorry didnt check out(feel sorry for people that work there but why that big a price hike its not going to help??.)

so headed on to sidmouth and jacobs, all looked good originally then noticed 1or 2 drops of oil(nowhere near as bad as seaton)
but then realised what i thought was just weed in water was weed and more oil

feeling really really gutted now

missed out ladram but checked out steamer steps at budliegh on way back
seems fine there lets just pray we dont get and easterly blow!!!!! or were stuffed
this has knocked me for 6 after a good weekend really always hoped after the initial grounding and damage but limited oil etc that this wouldnt happen but now 7 months on we are stuffed

so as had to go to agency office went to double locks on canal and stopped in for a pint

think i may have a few more beers tonight as thats all our fave beaches stuffed untill the cleanups done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

have also heard a report of oil going as far as chesil and portland, I really hope not

did try to cheer myself up with a quick spin for pike
I failed but 2 young lads had a pretty jack out
sorry such a down thread
dave

Re: Oiled up east devon beaches

such a shame dave! i have just been reading on the news that they were trying to break it in 2 pieces by pulling it with tugs (thats an extreme tug of war!!!)

now they are talking about calling in the navy to do some controlled explosions to break it!

Re: Oiled up east devon beaches

Mate, that's horrific. I'd hoped that after the initial problems this could have been avoided, but it looks like our worst fears have come true.

I'm absolutely gutted. These are my favorite beaches we're talking about and they seemed to be off limit to quite some time now.

I've got to ask, why has this happened? Surely the people in charge have had long enough to ensure that this should never have happened. It was reported that all the oil had been removed from the ship a long time ago, so why are we now faced with the massive damage to wildlife that this will undoubtedly bring?

I just feel numb.
