Rod section Joints

Just had two new rods delivered from a major mail order company.

Unpacked and checked them for any damage and then put the sections togever for another check.

On one rod the gap that remains between the two sections is only about 5mm? The other has a genorous 15 to 20mm.

I am under the opinion that I should return the 5mm one! It is true that this will quickly wear with use and the two sections will never go togever properly?

Anyone else with an opinion on this? Please confirm.

Re: Rod section Joints

I'd definately query that with the supplier or the rod manufacturer. 5mm is not allowing much room for wear.

Re: Rod section Joints

I thought I had read an article before about this and they do wear down as you have also suggested. 5mm isnt giving it much chance at all before I would end up playing with bees wax and trying to get them locking.

I think I had best speak to the supplier and see what they can do. Just wanted some confirmation of this.

The rods are not complete cheapos either.

Re: Rod section Joints

They were the RT Axcellerator rod which I have been told is one cracking rough ground rod for £100 each.

I am returning both and getting a refund. I have heard since that they tend to soften and go pretty spongy after some use and lose their qualities.

Also the supplier has indicated a poor build as thy reckon all the spigots are different and most have a very little gap left for any wear.

The reel seats for a rough ground rod are also very poor and a slosh will not fit them.

Pretty disappointed but thats life.

Re: Rod section Joints

For around that price mate, greys grsx, or the greyflex, theres a few more, daiwa sandstorms etc, they'll all handle it, depends how rough your going to fish. Next time you're in, we'll have a chat, and you can have a waggle! After that you can look at some rods!!
