Penn 310 gti

ok guys, i aint been boat fishing for quite a while now and was sorting out my kit the other day, and it turns out that last time i went i did my usual trick of just putting everything in the box after without cleaning it
anyway, found my nice shinny penn 310 gti and went to have a fiddle with it, only to find it has jammed up and doesnt really want to do much anymore because off all the salt and corrosion
i have stripped it down and got all the bits moving again more, but my question is what would people recomend for getting the salt off?
cheers guys

Ben, please tell me the last time wasn't with me, but I'd send it off to Reel Ade
it'll come back as good as new.

How to service a multiplier.

I always cover my workbench with a clean white sheet. Most beds have them and it will be fun seeing the wife wondering just how a sheet can dissapear.

Get your tools handy, a small phillips, a plain screwdriver, your recommended oil etc. A jewellers magnifying monacle looks very impressive aswell. Oh and the wifes best standard lamp.

Wash your hands, turn the tap off with your elbows, hold hands high in the air.

Divide your clean white bench(The dining room table) into left and right, carefully undo the screws on the left side of the reel and place then on the left. Undo those on the right and place them on the right. Most reels can now be pulled apart with confidence. Make a note in a little book where each tiny piece went. Of course you will remember but just in case.

This is the point where a miniscule spring shoots out and hits your monacle (see it saved your eyesight) It seems to shoot off into the shag pile carpet.
The main thing now is not to panic, divide the carpet into imaginary search areas and systematicaly run your now black oily fingers through the carpet pile. Complete each grid, you will know which ones you have searched by the oily black marks.

Now is the time to panic. scream, curse, wring your hands, tear hair etc. When this has subsided search again, by now however you will have backed into the table on your hands and knees and all the left hand bits will have either rolled off the table or joined the right hand bits. Often at this point the dog will join your search, he thinks your looking for bones of course.

It will now be the early hours of the morning, get a box and hurl all the remaing bits (if any) into the box, It helps to use the worst possible string of swear words for each part. Write a label for your nearest repair centre and enclose a letter explaining how your wife tried to repair it (you have to admire em dont you). Go to bed.
Find your side of the bed devoid of sheets.

Foggy

Re: Penn 310 gti

Hi Ben,

Use a white sheet or towel as suggestedand & be careful with springs etc.

My advice would be to take photographs of the internals before you strip the reel. Lots of photographs from different angles help in the long run.

Hope everything is well with you.

Regards

Drew
