best campsite near great beach fishing anyone ? It is looking increasingly likely that I will be spending a lot of time camping with the girls (Kim,Molly and Amy) on family holidays. Now I love spending time with the wife and kids , I also want to spend time dangling bait in the sea from the shore. My question is this. What recommendations have people got for a campsite near enough to the sea that I can stagger there at night and fish when the girls are all in bed ? Probably my top three would be bass, mullet and pollack. Maybe wrasse. Smuts occasionally too. Odd cod, ahh sod it, if it aint a whale it's on the list, well apart from dolphins too. You get the picture. That way I can both spend time with my loved ones AND get more shore fishing done PLUS experiment with halibut pellets and let everyone in on the new fishing revolution (or just switch to peeler like everyone else). (At least one of these holidays is likely to be on the Isle of Wight.) Over to you chaps, where would you fish if you could be at a local campsite within post-beer staggerings?

Re: best campsite near great beach fishing anyone ? Hi Barbleblanker, The Camping and Caravanning Club run a "Temporary Holiday Site" in Burton Bradstock twice a year, June and August. It is within a 5 minute walk to the beach and West Bay harbour is only a 10 minute drive away. The cost is only £6 per unit a night. There is no need to book as long as you are a member and you can stay as long as you like during each 3 week period. On the other hand they have a full facility site site at Normans Bay, Pevensey, that is only a 2 minute walk to the beach. There are many others but I only use these 2 as they are reasonably close to home. Regards Drew __________________ All that Glitters is not Gold Secretary of The Blandford Sea Angling Club

Re: best campsite near great beach fishing anyone ? A bit further afield I would say that everyone should stay at least once at Mother Ivey Bay Caravan Park near Trevose Head in cornwall. The site is on 100 metres from the beach, which fishes well for bass and ray, there is another cracking bass beach about 1 minute walk across the field called Constantine Bay (surf beach for bass fishing and a bit of wading) I think in total there are 7 beaches on the peninsula 4 of which are easing walking for a drunken individual! PS I've got my two weeks books for August. ![]() __________________ It has always been my private conviction that any man who pits his intelligence against a fish and loses has it coming. ~John Steinbeck

Re: best campsite near great beach fishing anyone ? I'd been looking at the gower as an option, you must have read my mind. Is this a touring site? I'll be using a folding camper. Cheers.

Re: best campsite near great beach fishing anyone ? shouldn't be a problem. here's the campsite website. http://www.carreglwyd.com/ port eynon has some good rough ground marks, you can also fish the beach in the evenings especially if there is any swell. you also have rhossili/llangenith about 10 mins drive away which is also a goood bass surf beach with flatties and golden grey mullet. let us know and i'll send you some more info. john __________________ 2012 targets - 180 yard measured cast, 10lb bull huss, 12lb blonde, 10lb hound, 8lb small eyed, spotted ray any size

Re: best campsite near great beach fishing anyone ? I'd agree with Lazy Hooker the campsite at Port Eynon offers some cracking coastline and endless possibilities. THe bass fishing using plugs or crab along the entire stretch of rough ground between Worms Head and Port Eynon is infamous and Port Eynon point itself threw up 3 double figure bass to my knowledge last autumn. THe beach itself can produce plaice and rays at low water on a big spring tide especially at night and thanks largely to the close proximity of the Helwick sandbank. Further down the beach heading east you reach Horton - again bass and plaice along with gurnards etc are likely here and then next beach - albeit very small is Slade. At low tide fishing for bass off the fingers of rock skirting both sides of the beach and then on the flood fish the beach itself which offers the added bonus of the odd turbot up to maybe 2lb.... __________________ South Wales Angling Guide - Shore Angling in South Wales

Re: best campsite near great beach fishing anyone ? Hi Terry llangenith is another class place. youre going to be there at the right time for the golden grey mullet...just remember the maddies. another good spot to try down there is the rocky coastline between burry holmes (the island at the right hand end of the beach) and broughton campsite. you need crab and your fishing off the rocks onto sand so tackle losses will be light. have fun john __________________ 2012 targets - 180 yard measured cast, 10lb bull huss, 12lb blonde, 10lb hound, 8lb small eyed, spotted ray any size
