A day trying catch some mackeral or others fishey things

I'm mainly a freshwater fisherman, but do like to pop down to the coast and have some fun spinning, I picked up a tele beach rod ion the winter and want to get some action in. To get to the point, some friends and |i would like to pop down to the coast, somerset or dorset and try for some mackeral, or if poss (but may be to early) a bass. Can anyone suggest where we should go. Went to Lyme a few weeks ago and caught baby pollock from cobb, most important thing to do is have fun.
