| Re: Cuba Hi Greenheart - Cayo Guillermo on the north coast has a good reputation for fishing for barracuda, snapper, amberjack, bonefish, snook and tarpon. Thomas Cook fly direct to there twice a week from Gatwick. Follow this link http://www.cubamania.com/cuba/forumdisplay.php?f=93 for a wealth of info on fishing in Cuba. marktheshark's posts and reports are particularly helpful. You should easily be able to glean enough info about fishing techniques, necessary equipment and locations to avoid hiring guides (some not so good) and fish DIY. One thing to remember though is you must take all your tackle with you. Because of the embargo there really isn't any available in Cuba - even hooks and line! A couple of things to remember is that most of the fishing is from the shore. Boats are pretty tightly controlled in Cuba and also if you want to wade the flats fishing for bonefish you will need proper flats sneakers or other suitable footwear to protect your feet from broken coral in the sand. Also when you say later in the year it might be wise to make sure you avoid the hurricane season. |
