Watch Out For The Weather! Last night me and my friend (steve devon) on the forum went fishing at mountbatten pier in plymouth, we got their the weather was savage it was widny, raining and the sea was coming over the pier. But still we carried on fishing set up our bivvy shelter and got out congering. The night started to die down and wasn't too bad come 10-11pm then at about half 11 the wind changed direction and my rod had a bite, steves tripod fell over but there was nothing he could do as he had to stop our stuff from blowin away it was that windy so i ran bak to the bivvy so that steve cud get his tripod and 2 rods that were about to be blown into the sea! We then packed up the bivvy and made a swift escape before it got even more dangerous! The moral is don't fish very bad weather because you will get caught out! If you've got any stories please tell me im bored lol thanks. __________________ Rigmaster

Re: Watch Out For The Weather! nowt to do with the weather but i have a story for you. when i was about 10(now 26) i was peir fishing in devon with my mum and dad. i was reeling in as it was time to home, my tackle got to the foot of some rocks and i was gonna reel over them. my mum stops me and says" i'll show you how to do it", on that warning she yanks the line out the water and looks pleased with her self. i turn to my mum and say"mum the hooks in my head". she turn round with my dad, sees the hook stuck in my head and almost wets her self LAUGHING! i had to wait a good 10 minutes for her to finish before she would take the hook out! she still finds it side-spliting funny today. needless to say i no longer fish with my mother due to safety concerns. ![]()

Re: Watch Out For The Weather! Come close to doin that before but not quite a hook in the head! Iv got my tackle caught in the rocks and i was too lazy to go down and get it so i pulled it til it came loose and the weight flew up and hit my mates mum! But luckily she had big coat on so hardly felt it, that taught me never to be lazy like that agen __________________

Re: Watch Out For The Weather! on the subject of 'self hooking' steve was envited to fish one of the beats one day, as my boss (brian) went to see how he was doing as steve hadn't been flyfishing long brian recounts this ;- steve came wandering down the bank says hi and asked if he could help with this. pointing to a greywulf hooked through above his eyebrow, about a size 12-14 ' i've been fiddleing with it but can't see what i'm doing' ' i guess its off up the surgery later?' says steve. brain in reply,-' ok let ''dr'' brian have a look , hold still and shut your eyes'. brian takes firm hold of the fly and rips it straight out of steves eyebrow after the swearing subsided and the blood had nearly stopped running into steves eye, 'come on steve the cut is about 1/4 inch long i just saved you about 4 hours in casulty, we having a beer, fishing or what?' only real difference is i didn't use a local anesthetic, looks like you need a few casting lessons anyway'. __________________ beer so many venues, so little time.

When I was about 17, I was walking around a local lake, when suddenly I felt a sharp pain & hard tug in my upper arm. I looked around to find myself attached via two barbs of a treble hook, attached to a large pike spoon, attached to a length of strong line attached to a rod that was held by a teenage girl (There's a moral there somewhere!!!) Being unable to get the hooks out, I went to the nearby Hospital out patients department, where I had to sit in the waiting room for about an hour enduring the bemused stares of the other patients. Eventually It was my turn to see the doctor who decided to get a pair of stainless steel surgical snips to cut the hook shanks & remove the hooks by pushing them right through. Problem was, the hook was made from tempered / hardened steel & all that happened when he tried to cut the hooks, was that his snips ended up with several nice notches in the blades. So he went of to consult a colleague & the pair of them came back along with a nurse & an even larger pair of surgical snips... 2nd attempt, click, same result. Next attempt was using a small circular revolving blade designed for cutting bone. Still no joy!!! & the blade was left with no teeth. Eventually after a lot of discussion, a hospital porter went out to his car & returned with a very un-sterile, greasy, dirty pair of pliars from his car took kit & showed the doctor how it was done. I left the hospital about 1 1/2 hours later with an arm dyed bright yellow with anti-septic & a nice pike spoon that was good as new once I fitted a new treble hook.....![]() __________________ Don't Judge My Path If You Haven't Walked My Journey...
