Went to Llansaint as suggested by John The Dog yesterday. Fished tide in for four hours in and back down on hour and caught my first bass in 23 years. Caught in the first hour weighing in at 4pounds - one hour after the low tide -not bad for my first bass from the beach !! Just wandering - are bass selective in their choice of bait. Basically we fished using lug worm and caught it, then switched to rag for the rest of the day and had no interest all day. There is a huge supply of local lug to be dug up so will try this next time - are they more likely to take the local worm ? Also it was only a smallish tide - does this make a difference ? Anyway - a good day out and def will have another day there on a bigger tide. __________________ So near yet so far - Wembley 2008 - Zideered Right Up !

Re: First bass for 23 years........ yeah i would say try again on a bigger tide the beaches here fish best on the bigger tides and if the local bait is lug then its gotta be a good choice of bait to use for them. i heard of a method yesterday (not tried it myself but it sounded good) and that was to make a sandeel flapper thread the head onto the hook and up the line then bait the hook with worm slide the eel back down the line so the fillets of the eel side ither side of the worm and whip with a bit of bait elastic im sure by the sound of it that it will work for bass let me know how u get on if u try it __________________ fishing for fish is not as simple as you may think!

Re: First bass for 23 years........ Nice one Tommy. As Dave has said, the bigger tides are the best, especially after a blow. Many of us cast over these magnificent fish. Now you know mate what the fuss about these wonderful fish, is all about. Welcome to the club.

Actually a very true point - our original casts were quite a way out so I brought mine in to about 15 feet off the beach and straight into the action. Weird to think they are only just out there and in such shallow water !! Cant wait to give it another go in a few weeks. __________________ So near yet so far - Wembley 2008 - Zideered Right Up !

Re: First bass for 23 years........ Hey Tommy, here's a little story for ya. Caught my first ever bass whilst drifting in Lanacombe Bay. The bait we were using was launce which was now starting to run low. At the end of one of the drifts, I reeled in and bought the end tackle aboard. It was then I accidentally trod on my bait. My launce was flattened to the deck. Moans and groans of how I had wasted bait soon echoed around our deck space. Peeling my launce patty off the deck I quickly announced that I would use the same bait. I did and promptly caught a bass of 71/2 lb. The moral of my story is…presentation is everything. ;-)
