A fishy tale

The other night when i was fishing i was fishing 3 hooked clipped down rigs with 12lb fluro line at distance.
Anyway on my second retrieval i noticed my middle snood had been snipped off by the crabs.
Well tonight i d just gutted a bass and was going through its stomach contents (as you do on a sunday evening in) it was full of hardbacks, about 8 in all the size of 50ps,and there it was 6 inches of snood with my stop knot bead sequin and hook ,still with the ragworm atached.
Well i never
This bass then took my squid bait 3 hours later.

Re: A fishy tale

Shows the Bass patrol the same area over & over ....

The other interesting thing I have noticed about big Bass is that when fishing together you only ever get 1 biggie a night - I have had a 5lb Bass & no more likewise with 3-4lb Bass - either one of us will get one but then no more ? Proves perhaps the big Bass are on solitary patrol in their own territory ?

Anyone else noticed this ?

yes i've noticed the same, one theory i've heard is that same age groups shoal together but by the time they get up around 5lb most of the shoal has been caught or otherwise predated.

either that or, as you say, larger fish are more solitary maybe because they don't need to shaol for protection or to avoid competition for food,

i don't know for sure but it either seems to be (from the shore) lots of schoolies, one or two at 3-4lb or one solitary big un.
i've never had two over 6lb on the same session and if i've been catching schoolies i've never had a significantly larger one from amongst them.

we only buy peelers because they tell us that peelers are more attractive as when shedding there giving off more hormone/pheremone signals and they can charge us a fortune for them, and lets face it a little bit easier to mount on hook
must admit think i might give the old hard backs a try sometime though

Hi John, don't think its too strange, when fishing from the boat using a 6oz flashmere (pirk) with a 6/0 treble mounted on the end, I got broken off after just hitting bottom, shortly after (no idea really) maybe an hour, another angler boated a 6lb bass with my flashmere hanging from its mouth, he was using a shad.

So who knows?

John
