Hi I have been merrily fishing most mondays between Kidwelly and Ferryside, and have been using Black lug. All I have managed to catch are large amounts of Bass, mostly between 2 1/2 to 3lbs. I think the hooks are 1o's. I have noticed that there are lots of flounder, Dabs and Mullet in the area, as well as Mackeral and Sewin. Could someone let me know what bait and tackle I need to use to catch something different. I would love a few flatties for a change. Seems a brilliant area though, hardly ever see another Angler. Great forum site by the way.

Re: Carmarthen coast fishing. Welcome back to our World I tend to start off float fishing for an hour to get some fresh mackerel. I take other bait with me (normally rag) and I like to add a piece of maccky last on the hook for more scent. Flounder like worms. Small king rag, white rag etc etc. Dabs like lug. Add some rag or squid to the lug on the hook and you're in business. Mackerel love anything shiny so mackerel strips are great for catching maccky. Mullet I'm not sure of but I caught a mullet the other day on rag. Don't be tight with the bait either. I normally have 2 to 4 worms going up the hook to increase the smell and size of the bait. To further increase the smell of your bait you use a 1 up 1 down rig. I made some rig guides here: http://www.torbayfishing.com/rigs.htm That's all I can think of. Welcome back to the real World :) __________________ Simon "4 Rods" TorbayFishing.Com - Beginners guide to sea fishing, news, reviews & more!

Re: Carmarthen coast fishing. Hi again. Thanks for all the information, I need it badly. I fish off the beach between The Gwendraeth River and Ferryside, huge beach, Cefn Sidan is on one side and I can see Pendine on the other. There is a lovely little Church called St Ishmaels behind the spot I have been catching them, it faces a place called Salmon scar point. There are Medieval Salmon traps visible at low tide. You can walk right out at low tide, and there is good fishing in the deeper pools formed in the shallow water off the point. I seem to catch most of the Bass on an incoming tide in a sandy stretch between two large rocky areas. The Bass come in to eat the Green Algae off the rocks I am told. I dig for Lug and small Rag worm and sometimes use small peeler crabs which are plentiful along the banks of the Gwendaeth. If you want a great Pub afterwards, there is a lovely little one on top of the hill in the village of Llansaint called the Kings arms. The Landlord used to live on Ascension Island and used to enjoy Big game fishing.

Re: Carmarthen coast fishing. John, you can fly fish for mullett while your beach rod is catching those boring old bass! ;) Would think you could also catch Sewin on the fly too but be careful as bass also like fly. All you need is a reasonably heavy fly rod (about 8 weight). Tommy, didn't know you were from Chepstow. I used to live there too on the new estate in Thornwell. I'm thinking of trying a spot on the Severn near the football pitch at Sudbrook just under the new bridge (think it's called Divers Rock), have you ever fished it? If so have you got any advice?

Re: Carmarthen coast fishing. It's a spot on the Severn estuary just under the new bridge. The ground is a bit more mixed than my normal spot at the seawall in Goldcliff, the main reason I fancy giving it a try is that you can get into water at low tide whereas at the seawall you can only realistically fish a couple of hours either side of hightide. Have been told you get some cod in winter. Seawall seems to be mainly strap conger, ray and sole at this time of year and I've been told it is similar up there but with a few doggies. I'll try it sometime and let you know as it must be about the closest saltwater mark to you mind you I have an uncanny knack of making all marks appear crap!

John The Dog, Great reuslt yesterday mate - thanks for the information of where to fish. Anyway planning another trip soon and wandered if you can give an address of a site where I can get the tide times for Llansaint ? Or the number of a good tackle shop that could send me a copy of the tables. I went by the tide times for Ferryside yesterday but am hoping to come back for a bigger tide soon but cannot find a tide table for the next month anywhere - wandered if you can help mate ? Thanks __________________ So near yet so far - Wembley 2008 - Zideered Right Up !
