Bait - first question of new user/fisher Hi there, this is my first question. i am totaly new to fishing and i am a bit bewildered about the choice in bait. for fishing off of snettisham, wells next the sea etc what is the best bait? in the tackle shop there are hundreds of metal spinners and lots of plastic beings, some sparkling some not and many other things (some i can not even identify) I am a bit skint so have to be carefull what i spend. should i go for real things, fish bits, worms etc or are the plastic and rubber things good and how many times can you use them before they break or rust? sorry if this is a bit basic but i am suffering from too much choice. thanks Dave

Re: Bait - first question of new user/fisher No probs Dave - we all started at the beginning. I dont know your particular area but if it is the "normal" sea, you are looking at live worm baits - rag or lug as a good all round bait for nearly all conditions and my advice is to start there - your tackle shop should tell you what bait is best for your area. Then frozen baits, Mackerel, squid, shellfish, crabs etc. all are excellent baits in certain conditions ... The sparkly shiny lures are mostly for boat fishing although one or two would be used from the shore - leave those for now and stick to worms - you should be paying around £10 per pound for rag but Lug does vary in price dependant on availability. Huge subject, probably the most important sea fishing subject and something you will learn as you go along ... Best of luck ! __________________ SUPPORT THE RNLI - click : www.rnli.org.uk ... every little helps ! PLEASE REMEMBER & GIVE A LITTLE .... http://www.poppy.org.uk/

Re: Bait - first question of new user/fisher hi there if in doubt, i always ask, (even when it seem daft) especally when on tight budget like maghouse said stay basic with worms fished tight to the sea bed and work on from there , 1 thing to remember is a lot of tackle is made to catch the angler ,but not so good for the fish. good luck __________________ http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o...xt80382370.gif

Re: Bait - first question of new user/fisher Glad you had a good night mate, and you enjoyed your flattie, may be an idea to familiarise yourself with fish species and minimum size limits tho.
