| Re: Great but simple memories Me & my dad used to go fishing a lot on his HONDA 90 (just one up from a moped). Mainly to Easedyke & Grimston park (both on river wharfe) & Hammerton (river Nidd - railway & mill length). Always great times, (whether fishing was good or not). We could now afford flasks (early 70's) so no need now to brew up on the bank. He was very much a handyman & MADE my 1st tackle box - it was curved, with a drawer @ the bottom for floats, shot & weights etc. Nearly always got tackle for birthdays & christmas, my 1st bought tackle box was an Efgeeko & also got a Leeds reel (pin) for my bithday & used it to get 3rd place a few days after on the Leeds Amalgamation Fur & feather match - OK it was only with 4 1/2 oz (all tommies - ruffe) but also won my section. The Ouse was @ least 6' up in flood & i had a good dace which came off, The match was only won with about 6 oz. My prize money was £36 (a good fortnights wages+ for a 17 yr old engineering apprentice) & a bottle of brandy + a turkey. Dad couldn't make it that day cos' of his shifts, but was dead chuffed when i got home. (i'm still using that reel to this day & it still runs like a dream.) Still Ten min's t'late on the bite's sometimes though (Bless him if he's still watching) __________________ Fishing - the best fun you can have with your clothes on. |

And when you get older (like me) I hope you get the same pleasure that I do encouraging a little grandson (5 years old) to learn about patience and sitting waiting for that heart stopping bite! | Re: Great but simple memories My Dad never fished and wasnt interested but one of my Uncle's did and being "Oirish" he had a great liking for trout ! Taught me all he knew on how to catch them, mostly on worm. Spent years fishing with him on Underbank and Damflask reservoirs in/near Sheffield. Ripple. |
