That may have been the case once, and if it's still true then it would be for the native Atlantic Sturgeon (also known as the European Sturgeon, the Baltic Sturgeon and the Common Sturgeon) which once swam in our rivers, and not the smaller species of sturgeon that are stocked into some of our British commercials today.

NB. If you like caviar; apparently the better caviar is got from the Beluga Sturgeon which is normally found in the Caspian sea.

Hi Rob,

Yes I think that was the fishery name. I have never fished it though but I think it was called Avalon fishery.

Have you fished it?

Re: fishing for sturgeon

What rod n reel did you get Rob?

I haven't been out fishing as much as I usually do either, The river/stream that I usually fish has been very low overall due to the lack of any continuous rain making the fishing a bit patchy but if the rivers start to come up to anywhere near their normal levels then it should improve and if it does I will get out a little more often.

I have just volunteered for my redundancy (I am nearing my retirement anyway) so I should be able to take advantage of any good weather and get out at a moments notice as long as the wife lets me LOL.

Smile Re: fishing for sturgeon

Got a new greys 8# 10ft GS2 I think it is for Christmas, ideal for Sutton Bingham. A new sonik cassette reel seems quite good on 1st impressions but have to get out there & put it through its paces a bit. Its got 4 spare spools why you need 4 heaven only knows?one floating, one intermediate & a sinker, what else could you want?
I'm going out on the royalty this weekend will be my 1st outing this year just got that urge to whet a line you know what I mean?need to get back out there, the record barbel came out before Christmas at just over 16lb something or other to a local angler.

Rob.

P.s good luck with the wife LOL
