Thames & people rant :0(

So me and the missis decided to go to cookham saturday for a spot of all day fishing, id watched some programmes so was going to try what i had seen.

I had looked at dofreefishing.co.uk and it says the following:

Free fishing from the right bank upstream of Victoria Bridge to rasilway bridge 2km. Fishing for Mixed Coarse.

Its not free, there is a sign stating that you need to pay at a certain tackle shop or pay on bank, another angler said £4.50pp. Fair enough

I also understand that the dofreefishing.co.uk website states the following:

River Thames - If fishing at a vacant recognised mooring place, please be prepared to move if a vessel wishes to moor.

Fair point.

Well i had set up 2 rods, baited the swim and was there about an hour when an old couple in a narrow boat swung straight into the swim and shouted "we are about to cock up your fishing", to which i replied "err, any chance of mooring up another 10ft forward, nothing is there mate". His wife said this:

"NO, you win some you lose some, [enter husbands name here] IGNORE THEM"

I explained that i had baited the swim (again) and it makes more sense to move forward behind the other boat that way they are moored up safely and we can carry on fishing. Everyones a winner, if another boat wants to moor up then we WILL have to move.

His answer: "my wife cant steer and moor very well so we are mooring here"


We packed up and left. We were p**sed off, even the guy on the next boat came over and suggested the same idea as we were packing up, he seemed pretty shocked at their actions.

Is it me or was there no need for them to be like that.

We popped to cookham weir for a while, missis caught a couple perch and some smaller fish, maybe minow??

as a kid a pouch full of maggots sorted out the bad mannerd boaters lol,,i think ppl in general are foul and bad mannerd nowerdays

im still shocked at the bad attitude when i tried to be friendly, his wife was a real bitch, id been waiting all week for a days fishing. I'll be paying for a spot on a decent lake next time, maybe i wont get spoken to like that or get interupted.

like when your out christmas day, severe northerly wind, snow on the ground, sitting on your box, freezing you nuts off, no keep net out, landing net dry/frozen, icicles hanging of the end of your nose, eyes watering, then a chap walkimg his dog, says ' any luck ' or 'caught anything'
