you say this but when i watch fishing programmes they never really go steady or careful when picking them up, maybe cause they have done it 1000 times i dont know, they treat the fish with respect but just simply pick it up???

Im yet to catch a decent perch, ive caught tiny ones but never 1lb/2lb perch so i guess ive not had to worry.

The spines on the back arnt much of a problem because they are obvious, its the the ones on the gill covers which catch you out, but after handling them a few times it becomes natural to pick them up in the correct way

Re: perch

perch like hugging banks deep sections ect worms sort the biguns and spinners i like a bunch of red maggots on a 16 hook on the canal they are greedy little buggers ,,when unhooking hold the line above the head run your other hand down and over the head and hold dorsal fin down this way you dont get spiked once you have the dorsal flat easy peasy to unhook ,what fish you think of catching fella sure we can help
