| John Wilson Avon Quiver Deluxe VS Drennan Red Range Carp Waggler I want a new rod for waggler fishing in still waters aiming for specimen fish of all kinds (bream, tench, carp etc.) The drennan carp waggler is more restrictive in terms of versatility, But i think it is more suited to my needs for a still water waggler rod obviously. But i think the john wilson quiver deluxe is a great bargain - 2 rods in 1. Would the avon tip of the john wilson be up for playing 15 pound carp? http://www.anglingdirect.co.uk/store...e-carp-waggler http://www.anglingdirect.co.uk/store...gth-ft-11-13ft Cheers |

| Re: John Wilson Avon Quiver Deluxe VS Drennan Red Range Carp Waggler Both rods have a good pedigree but If you want a waggler rod then the Drennan would be my choice. The Drennan rod has stand-off rings and was designed for fishing the waggler on Commercials but would still be at home trotting a stick on streams and rivers for Chub, Barbel etc. and the John Wilson rod does not have stand-off rings so will not be as good for fishing a waggler either on the river or on a commercial. Although the John Wilson Avon/Quiver is a very versatile all-round rod, its versatility is at the expense of not having stand-off rings making it not so good at casting a light waggler and is more suited to close range float fishing or legering (with or without a feeder). Both rods would handle double figure Carp; I have two JW Avon/Quivers (the old version) plus a Drennan float rod and I have caught double figure Carp on both but I wouldn't choose to use one of my JW Avon/Quivers if I wanted to fish a waggler on a commercial. __________________ My Web Site (The Average Coarse Angler) Happiness is Fish Shaped (It used to be woman shaped but the wifes getting on a bit now) |
