| Hi all. I like to use jiggs when fishing in freshwater (mostly bass, pike, pikeperch) but I wonder if I need a really "thin" and sensitive rod for the smaller jiggs (wormlike with single or double tails)? I currently have two rods, one "medium" for freshwater and streams and one a little bit sturdier for salt water. Maybe it´s worth the investment of a smaller rod, so that I have the "whole range"? ideas? /Doc |

| Re: Good rod for smaller jiggs? I dont do much lure fishing but if you are after sensitivity you could try using braided line ? __________________ Species 2011.. Common carp,Mirror carp,Pike,Rudd,Dace,Eel,Bream,Perch,Roach,Barbel, Chub |

I already use braided line, and it clearly makes it a lot more sensitive. But I´m still not sure whether to invest in a small rod or not. |

| Re: Good rod for smaller jiggs? It's always worth buying more fishing kit - ive been telling the missus that for years !! why the hell does she need more than 1 pair of shoes though ? ![]() __________________ Shore Species 2012: Dab-Flounder-Herring-L.S.Dogfish-Pouting-Shore Rockling-5 Bearded Rockling-Small Eyed Ray-Turbot-Whiting |

| Re: Good rod for smaller jiggs? My son and I have a couple of small 5 to 15gm spinning rods that we occasionally use for presenting tiny lures when we are after decent Chub and Perch on smaller streams and rivers and we match them with very small fixed spool reels. Although I don't do it that often I love this type of fishing as It is a very mobile way to fish which only needs a few pockets in your waistcoat for spare lures, scissors, forceps and a small camera, plus a small landing-net. I even caught a nice Common Bream once using a tiny Mepps spinner; two Bream followed the lure several times until one snatched my lure; showing that most fish will take live fry at some time or other. In the UK you can buy small plugs of 3 to 4cm in length and very tiny Mepps spinners and very small rubber lures if you look round tackleshops or on the web. I carry a small plastic fly box which contains around ten small lures in my waistcoat pocket. So I would feel a little under gunned without a small lure rod for streams etc. a great way to spend a couple of hours without having to worry about bait and all the other fishing tackle that we normally take with us in the UK. They are not very expensive to buy either. Shimano, Diawa and Shakespeare all sell them. | Re: Good rod for smaller jiggs? I find that having gear that is balanced to your target fish and presentation is the best approach. Most of my carp fishing both now and in the past has been done using softer 2 1/4lb tc rods which is pretty unfashionable in an age of 3lbtc rods being standard, but I fish to enjoy myself and I find it more fun on a softer rod. So while I am no lure fisherman id say it sound like you have a gap in your rod armoury :) |
