ok so my question is guys what is the best way to handle perch without getting caught by its gill spines i mange to always get jabbed in the fingers by them the doersal fin is no problem to me i just slinde my palm over it but wen the little bliters wriggle then comes the problem for the gill spine ..

i just put a big skii glove over the fish or a folded up cloth so i dont hurt it and remove the hok from indise its mouth as as all they ever do is swallow the hook

just pick them up from the middle behind the pectoral fins

Grab em with your palm just over the gill covers so they cant stick up and stab you.

If you do that with a downwards motion the dorsal will fold back as well.

i just pick it up from the bottom of the body and then grip on to there sides.

Depending on size - For the average sized perch just slowly and calmly place your hand and grip it on the top of the fish over the dorsal fin. The trick is to be firm with them, don't squeeze them! But be firm and they will stop wriggling and flapping.

I just grab the American version (almost genetically identical) by the lower lip with my thumb.
