any carp help, what tc rod? Hi, today i have purchased two 2.75 tc carp rods and some strong carp reels loaded with 15lb line, i was just wondering whether these will be too strong for carp from 5lb to 15lb, any helpful tips on using these rods will be great, also are they only usable for ledgering with the usual bite alarms etc or can you use a float, seriously i am pants at this stuff so anything will be great, lastly has anyone got any good places of where i can fish for carp in the derbyshire, leistershire area? preferably close to swadlincote, thanks, Josh :)

Re: any carp help, what tc rod? Can't help you with the fishing venues mate, sorry. The rods will need a bit of weight to get them to cast properly so anything under and ounce and a half will probably not even bend them much. Same goes for floats. They'll need to be heavy to get the rod to bend and impart any kind of power (as daft as that might sound) in to the cast. They are probably best suited to leger/feeder/method and using bobbin type indicators than what I used to call "normal" fishing. As for fish, you could catch fish of just about any size from one ounce to 20-30 LB but the smaller fish would hardly be much of a struggle. Catching them on 15LB line might be though. It sounds like you'v ebought an out and out carp (10LB+) kit there. However, as the old saying goes (something like) "You can only do waht you can with what you'v egot right now". So have a go anyway and let us know how you got on. I am under no delusions that I am hardly a carp expert , until someone else responds that's the best I can do right now. Enjoy! __________________ Just remember, not all the heroes died. www.helpforheroes.org.uk

Re: any carp help, what tc rod? you could drop the line poundage and let the rod do some work in stead of hauling them in ![]()

2 3/4 TC rods & 15lb line are ample for any Carp that you will catch in this country. Myself & other forum members have landed carp in excess of 50lb & catfish to almost 80lb on similar tackle with no problems on forum trips to France. If you have any spare spools with your reels it might pay to load them with 10lb - 12lb for less snaggy conditions. It's important to make sure that any rigs you use have a lead clip that will release the lead if you get snagged or broken. Make sure the drag on your reel is properly set & your tackle is balanced & you should be OK. Good luck.... __________________ Don't Judge My Path If You Haven't Walked My Journey...
