Re: any carp help, what tc rod?

my two carp rods are loaded with 10lb line both are 2.75lb test curve i like the rod to do a bit of the work no point in catching 2lb carp on 15lb line it wont be much fun. Your best set up would probaly be with the bite alarm but dont turn the volume right up for fear of anoying other anglers ,then the end tackle is what ever you feel comfortable using eg method feeder ,back lead with floating boilie or pva bag full of bait oily bait tho not water based as these erode the pva before you even cast them out i personally like to use methed with a boilie topped with fake corn tight lines

Re: any carp help, what tc rod?

I don't fish large exanses of water for Carp, just 3 to 11 acre lakes where I can virtually cast to anywhere on the lake that I want to from the bank, so I usually fish with no more than 2lb or 2.25lb rods loaded with 10 to 12lb line; I even use my 1.75lb rods on occasion.
I can cast near to islands 100 yards away using my 2.5lb Carp rods with 3oz leads and a short shock leader which is about the furthest I would ever need to cast nowerdays.

Remember Walker caught his record 44lb Carp, and Yates caught his 51lb record Carp on much shorter split cane rods with a test curve of just over 1.25lb from a very weedy lake (Redmire)

I often chuckle quietly to myself when I see Carp anglers fishing small 4 or 5 acre gravel pits and ponds in the UK; using gear that wouldn't be out of place in lake cassien in France.

I agree with Nick when he said that 10/12 lb line is usually ample in this country.

The only time I would consider going heavier in the UK is if I was fishing a huge (and possibly snaggy) water which need much larger leads to cast out a lot further or if I needed to use hook and hold tactics to keep the fish from nearbye notorious snags; which is not very often these days.

Re: any carp help, what tc rod?

seems people have already posted ill make it quick and simple as i can ... test curve of the rod is to do with the cast not the fish just use over 1.5oz leads and you will be sorted..

15lb line is just a tad to heavy for most comercials 10 - 12 would be better as already stated but keep it on ur reel no point wasting the money it cost just change the way you play the fish be more gentle in the movements and try not to pull them in as fast as possible as not to damage the fish

Re: any carp help, what tc rod?

I have always used 2 1/2 TC rods with no more than 10ld line for some reason, even stalking and fee lining, good for fishing next to the lillys and reeds etc to hold the big ones out ( not had anything above 20ld), a bit OTT for what i use, i never sit there with there with big bates and alarms on long sessions, there fore i have just got my self a 1 1/2 and a 1 3/4 TC rod with 8ld line for what i need, good for chucking out light baits etc and stalking/float fishing. More fun/sport aswell with the lighter rod.

Bets of luck mate

Just read your last post mate, you dont need luck kida, a 27ld fish is a stonker, nice one
