Re: chard res - bream fishing

well, what can i say. cracking day spent at chard reservoir and highly recommend it for the bream!

started the day meeting me old mucker 'mad dog' hounsell at the venue. the car park was full of white vans and estate cars....carpers! wind was breezy and coming from the SW. air temp about 12 - 15 degs. moon 1st quarter.

the res is about 40 acres i believe and holds a huge number of bream and a stonking head of large carp, my swim i chose was number 31.......

order of the day and target species was bream, so feeder tactics used throughout. mixed groundbait of my own evil creation containing hemp, dead red maggot, bird seed, crumb etc was slung out initially (about 4 jaffa's) and topped up with a large 30g feeder. 5lb maxima mainline, paternoster, size 14 microbarb red hook on 3lb 8oz hook length. within 10mins the first bite took hold which resulted in a nice sized skimmer, then as the day progressed bream up to 6+lb where caught or nearly caught (lost two personal best fish at the landing net, F*&king net was far too small for the venue!) and think i hooked into a carp or tench as the fish just screamed off without me stopping it! a whole pack of hooks used due to hook lengths becoming twisted or being bitten off by eels (had 2!). over all i estimate i had 40+lb of bream with at least 10lb lost at the net or generally bumped. keepnets aren't allowed at the venue so no pictures of the fish i'm afraid. generally a very good day indeed in super surroundings, and only for £8 per day! i can honestly say i had better fishing than when i fished the river Shannon in Ireland!

Andy

Re: chard res - bream fishing

double red maggot seemed to produce the most fish, including the eels, but corn and worm also proved their worth!
