| Lake Windermere Hello! I'm going on a hill walking weekend in the lake district at the beginning of march and really wanted to get some fishing in as well. We are staying in Windermere. Does anyone one know where on the lake to go and what will be fishing best at the time? I fly fish and do a bit of coarse fishing. Any help With tactics and bait would be much appreciated. Also do you need a permit or are there free areas of the lake? Cheers |

| Re: Lake Windermere hi pal, fished windermere on a boat yesterday from 6.30 til 6. and blanked we had 6 rods out baited up and was even spinning, at times not even a nudge or niggle. Thats not to say its a bad place to fish tho. This time of year u have to really target the pike. using dead baits teqniuques. you can only use sea baits and i would recommend getting them down deep. dont forget that in various parts of the lake you can cast 30 yards and be in 60ft of water... or deeper. there is some absolute lunkers in there so up your gear size 6 trebles, 25lb wire trace, 15lb mainline. that sort of thing. i also tried a polaris pike float that is absolutely spot on for deep water. there is also a good head of perch about too. we kept picking these up on the fishfinder so spinning or worms would do aswel. as for venues, i do prefer the north end of the lake, seems less busy and is full of bays and features. so wray campsite area or trout beck, or near the sunken island, or try this little spot.... u can camp next to car and fish here on the car park, i would recommend walking to the left about 15minutes and heading for the big headland that sticks out. there is a ridge under water there, that drops deep, however not sure of the road name but its off the b5286. john |
