Coventry Canal

Hello everybody, I am new here, but it looks like a brilliant forum.

Sorry to start with a question but I would really like some input.
I just moved right next to the Coventry Canal Basin and i would like some info on the venue. I know it holds roach and perch, but what about pike or zander? I don't drive so I am mainly interested in the stretch from the Canal Basin to up to a mile upstream. And has anyone fished that stretch before and if you had, any tips you could offer?

Tight lines

Re: Coventry Canal

Alright I'm studying at the uni there and fished the canal the bend with reeds down the footpath side, caught a few jack pike on small rubbers jigs, red tailed and White body about 2 to 3 inches in length, was asking around and found that people have been catching zander and perch by jiggings small worm jigs at the very edge of the pathway, supposibly in the basin

Re: Coventry Canal

hi its nice to see people from coventry on here welcome

iv not fished the coventry canal in years and not fished for pike in 20years as wellz as said but if you walk around there should be a good stretch just past the walk over bridge upto the cashes lane bridge weeds and over hanging trees it might hold some pike and zander also if you walk up the foleshill road to the bridge down the steps then turn right under the bridge there a stretch of canal which iv always wanted to fish looks ok there

Re: Coventry Canal

i learnt to fish on coventry canal and have fished it on and off for the past 20 years. the stretch your on about can be magic for pike. The jacks will take lores and rubber jigs but dead bait is the way forward if u want bigger fish as pike 20 pound and up have come out of that part of the canal quite often. Look for the large sholes of rud and roach if you can find them the pike will not be far away from them. Cast your dead bait about 10 to 15 feet away from the main shole in the mid channel of the canal with your bait about 1 and a half to 2 feet off the bottom. Good luck and hope this helps.
