The lamprey did nothing mate, not a touch on them all day! That was caught on a sardine tail flat on the bottom!

As for the glove, I put it on ready to get hooks out, but luckily enough the fish unhooked itself and to be honest I'm glad because it was very early and I wasn't just ready to stick my hand up inside a pike's gills. I've never done it before anyway. There was another fella fishing for pike and he set up beside us, he was quite helpful. He caught 3 and lost 2 in the 2 hours we were with him. I watched him gilling the pike and it looked easy enough. Suppose i can only learn by doing.

Am off out on sat so hopefully report then . I think its mainly due to the declining weather, all the fine weather anglers have packed up for the year .

Its good to watch others fishing stuart, its the best way to learn IMO. Gilling the pike isnt something you want to do if you arent confident about it, it can end up in a nasty injury. I am confident and know what i am doing and still last year i near lost the top of my finger cause i hadnt fought the pike long enough and it trashed about as i was landing it! When you do begin to gill them you will see that it is a very efficient method of landing them.

The first time I tried to gill a pike I cut my finger pretty bad on the rakes, hurt like a bi#ch. Got me self some gardening gloves for this year lol until I get more experience

My hands got so used to that, that now the hand i gill with has really tough skin on the tops on my fingers cause i got cut that often lol

I only use the glove for the tube, its not worth risking your own safety.
