Help Please

I have found a old reel in my loft.It is a J W Young & Sons Redditch. It is about 5 1/2 inches in diameter and 2 1/2 inches wide. Two winding handles and a small lever which engages ratchet and a larger curved lever which seems to put a brake on the reel.In the centre of the side with the two winding handles there is a eight pronged screw which seems to be a locking mechanism. It all seems made of black painted brass. I have looked on J W Youngs web page and can see similiar reels which have holes around it on the sides but this one doesnt. Do any Forum members have any idea what this reel may be called.

Many thanks Geogth

Re: Help Please

After talking to Mark Wintle, Chavender and Rusty on another Forum, Mark Wintle said :

Quote: "Phil Waller's 'Fishing Reels - Collecting for All' page 139 has a 6" version and mentions the 5" version of the Allcock Bell Sea Reel. It's heavy duty and doesn't need the fine adjustment of spinning or trotting reels.'"

hope this answers your question geogth
