Re: quiver rod

Get a small bell for the tip of your rod, old school style
your method might get you in a mess if you forget to tighten up before the strike,
try this

Re: quiver rod

You can try fishing with a rubber float stop above your feeder so that you have a semi self hooking rig (if you get broken up the fish can still eject the feeder as the float stop will slide off the main line).
Then after winding in the slack switch to free spool if you are sure you can hear it, or with a small bell attatched to your tip like maddison suggested.

It's not Ideal but at least you stand a chance of hooking a fish before you pickup your rod.
You would be better off concentrating on just one rod though.

Re: quiver rod

Personally i would not use the free spool

You will get into one hell of a mess is its set slack and you strike into a pound roach .

Put a penny on your spool with a tin underneath so as the line gets pulled off the penny drops onto the tin as goes clink

Or if we didn't have a penny; a spoon or fork resting on the line over a tin plate would also work.
