Re: Quiver tip advice

mines 2 piece plus tips so 3 I guess :) yeah I was using the smaller reel and it struggled with the weight but the larger sized one no problem with it. I was after a size 40 but couldnt find one at reasonable price so took the 50 instead. It such a nice rod to hold as well, I have been given 2 rods fairly expensive ones as well and prefer the feel of Onmi X also I like to float fish with my Shakey firebird rod, its over 23 yrs old :)

Re: Quiver tip advice

My first Shakespeare rod was the 'Match International' designed by Clive Smith and Ken Giles (back in 1975 or 76 I think it was).

The England team won the world championships then; using the match International rod which was a beautiful light fibreglass match rod with a spliced tip. It was my pride and joy until it broke several years later after striking it against a tree branch; I remember it as I hooked and landed a Roach of 1lb 10oz with the broken tip. hanging from the end.

The rod was called the 'Shakespeare Match International'. I think I remember it had brown whippings and a slightly lighter brown blank.
There was also a closed face reel with the same name and sporting the same colours bought out to match the rod.
After it eventually gave up the ghost I made a bait throwing stick out of the handle section so that I could feed maggots & casters one handed.

I might have the Shakespeare catalogue where I first saw the rod up in the loft somewhere.

Was it the 'Craddocks Combination rod' that made up into a pier rod, a float rod and a leger rod?

The wife bought me one of those from her catalogue in the early 70s and it was good enough for me in those days.

i didn't mate , In the old days before you were even thought of we used tank aerials to make rods with
.I also had a actually produced rod which was metal , buggered if i can remember who made it but it weighed a ton ,

Seem to think my dad ended up using it to grow his runner beans up
