Hi I have not fished for 12 years or more due to deteriorating health and mobility problems but have now found a caravan park with a good size lake I can get to in my power wheel chair. The lake is stocked with roach, tench and carp up to 8-9 pounds. This will do me fine but I have forgot so much! When my health deteriorated I more or less gave up and sold all my fishing gear, except my John Wilson quivver tip rod, hoping that one day, maybe one day I would fish again and I will be fishing again soon ![]() This may sound silly to many, forgive me I just want to get back to fishing. can someone suggest the best rig set up, weights, hook size, etc. I will fish off the bottom probably with trout pellet and corn for starters Thank you ![]()

Re: Coming back to fishing need help. Hi mate welcome to the forum, Im no expert so I can only suggest what I would do and that is probably fish a pellet waggler with 6lb main line and a 4lb hook to nylon with either a banded or hair-rigged pellet, I would be using size 14 to 16 hooks depending on bait size. most floats have a weight guide written on them and should be fairly easy to set up. invest in a catapult and trickle in some free pellets little and often. Dont forget your disgorger/forceps , unhooking mat and a decent landing net. I mainly fish for large carp and barbel in rivers now so this set up is purely from memory but Im sure someone on here can be of more use. Feel free to ask any other questions Tightlines Mad ![]() __________________ Species 2011.. Common carp,Mirror carp,Pike,Rudd,Dace,Eel,Bream,Perch,Roach,Barbel, Chub

Re: Coming back to fishing need help. It will depend on what method you want to use , float , feeder, pole Different methods and so many variables What fish will you be targeting / What type of water /river stream /river atc

Re: Coming back to fishing need help. Hi Nick I will probably be targeting carp although tench are welcome ;-) After being medically retired in early 50's, lost the ability to fish as my mobility worsened, now I hobble short distances and have a power wheel chair and never thought I would fish again. 11 years on to find a nice lake I can get to that has a variety of fish up to about 8lb that I can manage to net (I cannot bend down) it sounds wonderful. I just love to fish again and cannot wait but due to the depression I have forgotten so much. I really am greatful for everyones help. Enough of the health problems in the past, a new chapter will begin next month, I am going to fish again and love every minute of it. A small lake with fish this small isn't for everyone but 11 years lost it will be wonderful. I just need to refresh my memory, get a good set up from the start and once I experience the magic of catching fish I am sure it will come back to me. Thank you everyone for sharing your setups, bait ideas and techniques and your experiences ![]() Paul

Re: Coming back to fishing need help. i wish you well mate personally i would look at shimano reels . a couple of spare spools , one with 4 lb line and one with 6 lb, match these with a hook link dependent on fish size a nice 13ft match rod and a good feeder rod with a mixture of tips plenty good enough for carp at the size you stated i would buy a selection of floats for different conditions /methods , A few different sized feeders and hook from size 20 down to size 8/10 the smaller sizes i would go for hook to nylon (thats if your eyes are as bad as mine lol) then it would be nets , rod rests etc A ROUGH GUIDE TO HOOK SIZES AND BAITS

Re: Coming back to fishing need help. Hi Paul i have recently purchased a Shimano Catano medium feeder rod and have caught more than 50 carp ranging from 2lb to 11lb and the rod copes very well maybe one to think about. I have been using the preston inovations flat method feeder with Sonu method mix and halibut pellet. Tony.

Re: Coming back to fishing need help. Hi Tony I have never done feeder fishing, mainly fished off the bottom with maggot or corn, pellet or small boilies. I did a spot of pole fishing but due to back and hip problems now there is no chance of that. Pole fishing was magic. I sold all my rods 10-11 years ago never expecting to fish again, well all except the John Wilson quiver tip. With my carp rod setup was not a problem but with the quiver tip I am not sure what weights to use to cast out to an island without damamging the flexible tip. I guess rig setup is probably where I am stuck. ![]() Paul
