| My biggest roach Went out to our usual spot last night. I wanted to try my new sliding float method for roach/bream etc. So we got there and set up for about 7. My mate was pulling out wee ones, but I was going for something a bit bigger as I'm sick floating near the top only to get 3-4 inch fish! I sat and I sat but wasn't getting anything, not even bites. So i stuck the feeder on once it started getting dark and loaded my hook up with maggots, threw it out and 5 mins later I finally got a nibble! So I sat ready to strike and the rod went again, I ended up pulling out an OK sized roach. So I had a celebratory smoke then refilled the feeder and hooked on more maggots, at this stage it was getting almost impossible to see so I said I'd leave the rod out for another 5mins then pack up and go. But just as I said that my rod went mad, so bang, i struck into it, brought it to the surface and shouted for my mate to grab the landing net cause it looked a decent fish, i thought it was a bream. I got it in the net and took it out only to realise it was the biggest roach I have ever caught! Didn't have scales with me which im raging about, but it was some size! So i'm on ebay here going to buy a set of digital scales for next time. Would love to know what weight it was! Anyway this has made me believe that fishing in the late evening is a hell of a lot better than fishing during the day/early evenings. So all being well before the summers out we'll get either an all nighter going, or a seriously early morning session! Did I mention I love fishing? ![]() Here's a few pics of the session... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

| Re: My biggest roach Thanks lads! I'm still smiling about it! Steve, yeah I got it going ok mate thanks, although it took a bit of trial and error and I had to load the line up with AAA shots, think i had 9 on it. To me that was too many and was maybe scaring the fish as they were soo close to the hook? So i've got some SSG's for next time so there's not so many on the line. I was wondering if there's such a thing as a 7g inline weight? Although in saying that, it might sink the bait too quickly... I dunno lol. I'm taking you're word for it mate, I'm calling it a 2lb'er from now on! Haha thanks again! |

We went to Loughgall again last night, wasn't a brilliant night but wasn't a bad night either. Weather was absolutely class, but due to my mates car problems we didn't get out and set up til about 7.30pm meaning we'd only 2 hours or so to fish (gates are locked at 10pm and the stupid cow who works there loves letting me know that). As soon as I cast out my rod was going mad with nibbles, and the odd BIG bite, but I kept missing them! But I eventually got one, and it wasn't a bad size at all! We seen something big (we think a pike) jumping close by and bites after that just died out. But we sat on and not long before we packed up I got another, just a wee one this time. Wasn't a brilliant nights fishing, but it was very relaxing and the wildlife kept us enterainted while the bites died off. There is dragonflies out there the size of my hand! lol.
