Re: My biggest roach

Looks like another cracking session there buddy!!! A big roach has gotta be the awesome looking fish around, looks like you have cracked how to catch them to, you may have forgotten the scales but at least you had your camera with you, you would have been gutted not to get a pic of that beastie!

Well done again, looks another good session. You must try and get a carp out of there!

If you had wanted hair rigs, you should just have said and i would have posted you a few down for free! it's far easier and cost effective to make your own!

I would put a nice bed of particles down to get the fish feeding, hemp and sweetcorn. then hair rig a boilie or a few grains of fake corn (to stop the roach from bothering you) over the top of it.

What size are the carp in it now?

Justin

Re: My biggest roach

Brilliant roach mate! Here's one I caught in 2007 with Fishypaul that was about 1.5 lbs (my big sausage fingers obscuring most of it) and took a 20mm halibut boilie:

Great feeling isn't it? Well done mate.

Re: My biggest roach

Justin - thanks mate, I should've asked lol. There was a 26lb'er caught a fortnight ago. It was foul hooked while he was pike fishing! I'd be happy with any size of carp!

Rob - Very nice mate, and it's a great feeling indeed!

Re: My biggest roach

Well PH, you've fair got me going again. Reminds me of the 3lb 11oz roach I caught in a sand pit near Scunthorpe in 1969. The record then was a tad over 3lb 14oz and someone else had already had one at 3lb 12oz from the same pit a week previous. The week before that I'd watched that shoal spawn on some willow roots right at my feet and I just knew there was a record in there.
As I remember you had to fight off the 2lb perch vying for every maggot in 8ft of weedy water. The swim measured about 1 sq yard just over rod length and when you'd taken a couple of fish from the shoal they would just melt away.
I must go back there and see whether the pit is still there.
